Hosted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaybooks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rainy Day Books<\/a>, Giada\u00a0was interviewed on stage at the Midland, and all attendees received a copy of her new cookbook. I&#8217;ve long been a fan of Giada\u00a0and own nearly all of her cookbooks. Her basic risotto recipe is my go to, but for the most part, I don&#8217;t turn to her recipes regularly. In case you&#8217;re unfamiliar with Giada, I think you&#8217;ll get a feel for how charming she is. She&#8217;s one of those celebrities that I misguidedly think I could be friends with if we actually met.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fMm4MNO3Tsk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As I flipped through her new cookbook at the event, I couldn&#8217;t wait to try it out. <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Weeknights-Giada-Simple-Recipes-Revamp\/dp\/030745102X\" target=\"_blank\">Weeknights\u00a0with Giada<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>has a different focus than her\u00a0others. It focuses on simple dishes that come together quickly. In addition to Italian recipes, she also includes meals from other cultures. I think this cookbook is the perfect\u00a0addition to the busy cook&#8217;s repertoire.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/04\/ypa-072.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1912\" title=\"Pork Chops &amp; Potatoes\" src=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/04\/ypa-072.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So far, I&#8217;ve made:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/recipes\/giada-de-laurentiis\/ham-gruyere-and-apple-panini-recipe\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Ham, Apple &amp; Gruyere\u00a0Panini<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.giadadelaurentiis.com\/recipes\/573\/sweet-and-spicy-greek-meatballs-keftedes-me-saltsa-domata\" target=\"_blank\">Sweet &amp; Spicy Greek Meatballs<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/recipes\/giada-de-laurentiis\/fried-smashed-potatoes-with-lemons-recipe\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Fried Smashed Potatoes with Lemon<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/recipes\/giada-de-laurentiis\/spiced-pork-chops-with-sweet-and-sour-glaze-agrodolce-recipe\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Spiced Pork Chops With Sweet &amp; Sour Glaze<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/recipes\/giada-de-laurentiis\/pastina-with-peas-and-carrots-recipe\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Pastina with Peas &amp; Carrots<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They were all delicious and took well under an hour to make. Here are my notes about the food I made:<\/p>\n<p>My favorite was the pork chops. Keegan&#8217;s was the meatballs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/04\/ypa-012.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1910\" title=\"Panini in Progress\" src=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/04\/ypa-012.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In terms of ease, the meatballs and smashed potatoes took the most time, but I suspect they&#8217;d come together a lot faster on my second try. Also, I used Yukon potatoes and think I would try baby red next time. Mine didn&#8217;t smash as well as hers, and for now, I&#8217;m\u00a0blaming it on my potato choice.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/04\/ypa-065.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1911\" title=\"Meatballs\" src=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/04\/ypa-065.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, I burned the toast on the panini, but that&#8217;s kind of my thing.
