I interned there in college\u00a0and quickly fell in love with the city. Since my internship, I&#8217;ve returned twice, once as a newly engaged couple and most recently with my husband this fall. Although I&#8217;d lived there before, I spent a lot of time researching where we should\u00a0eat and what we should\u00a0see before our trip. Below is a map of\u00a0the places\u00a0we visited this time around.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Chicago Map\" src=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/12\/chicago-map.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"145\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/12\/chicago-map.jpg\"><\/a><strong>View <a style=\"color:#0000ff;text-align:left;\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps\/ms?ie=UTF8&amp;hl=en&amp;msa=0&amp;msid=210669629032792886385.00048e9c0f3957156c0bf&amp;ll=41.890965,-87.634184&amp;spn=0.046898,0.041156&amp;source=embed\">Misc &#8211; Chicago<\/a> in a larger map.<!--more--><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/12\/chicago-madison-069.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/12\/chicago-madison-0691.jpg\"><\/a>This trip was a great one, but there were a few things we didn&#8217;t do that are fantastic. Here&#8217;s\u00a0the complete\u00a0list of my favorite things to see and do in Chi-town.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to a Cubs game<\/li>\n<li>Visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artic.edu\/aic\/\" target=\"_blank\">Art Institute<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Shop on Michigan Avenue<\/li>\n<li>Experience a whole new world at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sheddaquarium.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Shedd Aquarium<\/a><\/li>\n<li>See Chicago at new heights at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hancockobservatory.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">John Hancock Observatory<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Take a walk on the beach<\/li>\n<li>See a show at Second City<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Be sure to visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.choosechicago.com\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago&#8217;s Convention &amp; Visitors Bureau Web site<\/a> to see what&#8217;s\u00a0happening during your stay. Trust me,\u00a0the city has some great events, particularly in the summer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/12\/chicago-madison-0692.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-137\" title=\"The Lake\" src=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/12\/chicago-madison-0692.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My husband and I ate like pigs in Chicago. It was fantastic, but a little ridiculous. Take advantage of our extensive research and check out at least one of these restaurants:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>XOCO: This is a Rick Bayless restaurant. While we were there, he was working, and I was starstruck. The food and restaurant are pretty casual, but the food is great. Try this as a\u00a0lower cost alternative to his other restaurants.<\/li>\n<li>The Purple Pig has been recognized by <em>Bon Appetit<\/em> and slew of other incredibly smart foodies. It&#8217;s a little pricey, but well worth the money. Choosing from their list of small plates can be intimidating, but you can&#8217;t go wrong. My husband had the milk braised pork and I had the pork steak. Both were unbelievably delicious.<\/li>\n<li>MORE is a lovely cupcake shop. The flavors are unusual, yet familiar. They provide great fuel after a day spent shopping on Michigan Avenue.<\/li>\n<li>Castel\u00a0Gandolfo\u00a0serves pizza. It&#8217;s not Chicago-style pizza, but don&#8217;t let this turn you\u00a0away. We choose a goat cheese and prosciutto pie that I still think about. As a matter of fact, I&#8217;m craving it right now.<\/li>\n<li>Franks &#8216;N&#8217; Dawgs\u00a0is one of the three, most\u00a0highly respected\u00a0hot dog joints in Chicago. Wiener Circle and Hot Dougs\u00a0are also supposed to be amazing, but I&#8217;ve never tried them. I can only vouch for Franks &#8216;N&#8217; Dawgs. Their inventive combinations will redefine how you think about hot dogs.<\/li>\n<li>Last, but not least, we had a romantic dinner at Table Fifty-Two. The chef, Art Smith, does up-scale Southern food. Everything was wonderful, but the two most amazing parts of the meal were the things we didn&#8217;t order,\u00a0a simple, but complex goat cheese and scallion biscuit and a deviled egg.
