My thought was that the recipes might be perfect for a new mom.\u00a0 For the most part, they looked simple, fresh and pretty, and I assumed they&#8217;d be fast.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Fresh-Easy-What-Cook-How\/dp\/0714863602\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2263\" title=\"51GGtCeraBL__SL500_AA300_\" src=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/51ggtcerabl__sl500_aa300_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->This oversized volume is full of large, glossy photos and step-by-step instructions. The pictures of\u00a0ingredients make cooking look simple and beautiful. Interesting combinations make for special dishes. Overall, I liked this cookbook, but\u00a0have a few caveats.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/summer-soiree-020.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2264\" title=\"summer soiree 020\" src=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/summer-soiree-020.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The first is that some of the ingredients are hard to find. For example, I had planned to make the avocado and chorizo toast for breakfast last weekend, but could not find smoked chorizo sausage (only the raw variety). To make the wonderful, peach and mozzarella platter, I had to make a trip to a fancy grocery store.\u00a0(That being said, the effort was well worth it. The\u00a0dish was ready in minutes and took me back to Italy.)<\/p>\n<p>The other issue I\u00a0had was that although the recipes were simple some of them are very time-consuming. Long marinades and cook times meant that some of the recipes I planned to make were not feasible with our new baby-centric schedule. So, unfortunately, I never made the\u00a0sticky BBQ chicken and slaw I planned to.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/tie-dye-021.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2265\" title=\"Tie Dye 021\" src=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/tie-dye-021.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, I did make these recipes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sticky Fig &amp; Ricotta Toast &#8211; Ready in 5-10 minutes this was so pretty and delicious<\/li>\n<li>Creamy Zucchini, Lemon &amp; Pea Pasta<\/li>\n<li>Peach &amp; Mozzarella Platter &#8211; The flavors in this were wonderful. I&#8217;d never tried this combination before, and the flavors complement each other well. I can&#8217;t say enough good things about this.<\/li>\n<li>Cobb Salad with Honey Mustard Dressing<\/li>\n<li>Steak &amp; Artichoke Tagliata<\/li>\n<li>Green Salad with Seeds &amp; Crouton &#8211; The dressing was so easy and delightful.<\/li>\n<li>Hasselback\u00a0Sweet Potatoes &#8211; Notes of lime, maple syrup and chili flakes make these something special.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/tie-dye-013.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2267\" title=\"Tie Dye 013\" src=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/tie-dye-013.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dressing from the Green Salad with Seeds &amp; Crouton<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Serves 4-6<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 small clove garlic<\/p>\n<p>3 tbsp. olive oil<\/p>\n<p>1 tbsp. red wine vinegar<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp. Dijon mustard<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp. honey<\/p>\n<p>Crush the garlic, then put it in a small jar or container with a lid. Add the oil, vinegar, mustard and honey in a jar with a pinch of salt and pepper.
