Lisa is a New York transplant who shares her love of Texan cuisine through her blog, <a href=\"http:\/\/homesicktexan.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Homesick Texan<\/a>. Her cookbook came out a year ago, and I&#8217;ve had it on my shelf for about that long. I&#8217;d made a few items out of it, but hadn&#8217;t really\u00a0cooked much from it.\u00a0I chose this\u00a0cookbook for October, because I thought it&#8217;s hearty Tex Mex fare would be perfect for crisp fall days and football season.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re not familiar with her blog, here&#8217;s Lisa:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/neMuG4Y-ogs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Cookbooks that feature a specific cuisine seem to get the least use in my kitchen, which is kind of silly. I always think of them for entertaining as opposed to regular life. It doesn&#8217;t make much sense, and after cooking out of this book, I&#8217;ve discovered some recipes that are favorites. The dishes in this cookbook are familiar and hearty and will fit in well with your day-to-day life. <!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2443\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2443\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/homemade-bread-017.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2443\" title=\"homemade bread 017\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/homemade-bread-017.jpg?w=300\" height=\"225\" width=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2443\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">pork chops with salsa verde rice<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Overall, I was really happy with this cookbook. Only the poblano mac and cheese was disappointing, which I&#8217;m chalking up to using the wrong kind of cheese. I did find that some of the chiles are hard to locate in Kansas, but don&#8217;t let that stop you from picking up this cookbook or swinging by her blog.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2444\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2444\" title=\"homemade bread 002\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/missalaneyus.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/homemade-bread-002.jpg?w=300\" height=\"225\" width=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2444\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">salmon croquettes<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>My favorites from her book:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Apple Cheese Scones with Jalapenos<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/boitearecettes.blogspot.com\/2012\/04\/queso-cookies.html\" target=\"_blank\">Queso Cookies<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Pork Chops with Salsa Verde Rice<\/li>\n<li>Crab Cakes with Chipotle Chiles and Corn<\/li>\n<li>Salmon Croquettes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here&#8217;s some other recipes you can find online from the
